Chief Seathl, also known as Chief Seattle, was one of the last great Native American Chief. Upon request from the American government to buy off the last great lands belonging to the Native Americans, Chief Seathl sent a letter to the American people. A letter that represented the last wishes of the people that decided to gracefully surrender lands that belonged neither to them nor to the Americans. Wishes filled with desires of upholding the great beauty, and the greater meaning that these lands and Nature meant to the Native Americans, and which they wished the American people to honour and cherish as well. Wishes that were ultimately disregarded by a great many not a few decades later. I hope by reading this long lost letter, some of the wishes may finally be honoured in respect to those who left their lands in our care. Despite it being directed at the American people, I consider it also should be applied to the Canadian people, and that is why it resonates so much in me. Fun fact: this letter was a direct inspiration for the song "Colors of the Wind" from the Disney movie "Pocahontas".
