The Federation of Pangaea is not merely just some micro-State. It is *the* new face of mankind; one that's technologically advanced, yet wise; one that's in partnership with its environment, yet enjoys fundamental universal rights just like other creatures of Nature.
One of the goals of the Federation of Pangaea is rather audacious. We, as a new civilization, are establishing the planet Venus as the first Pangaean World.
Many nations are attempting to colonize Mars, creating potential conflicts between such nations, just as History witness with the colonisation of America; yet Mars has several considerable disadvantages. It has a negligible atmosphere; causing considerable pressurization problems (exposed flesh, for instances, will boil, and **all** settlements will need to be pressurized). Its size and gravity is a fraction of Earth's, making it impossible for it to retain atmosphere, and causing health problems. Its temperature averages -60°C; in the best case scenarios, greenhouse effect *could* bring that up to -50°C. Finally, it lacks any protection against solar winds and ionizing particles, whose effects on living beings are similar to radioactivity.
The Federation of Pangaea shall be, instead, developing Venus. This is more ethical than colonizing America had been. By colonizing a sister world that's roughly the size of Earth, we can begin moving people over, and considerably reduce the population stress on Earth, increasing the quality of all our partnership with our environment. Venus, unlike America, is not home to indigenous people - it is in fact most probably downright lifeless, due to the harsh conditions on the surface. We have the opportunity to colonize and claim a new World in a truly proper, ethical manner.
The surface of Venus is inhospitable; however there is a sweet spot in Venus' atmosphere, where two out of three conditions (temperature, pressure) are suitable for life. The last condition, chemical, can be addressed with relatively simple photosynthesis processes and outpost structure chemistry. Earth air is buoyant on Venus; this makes it possible to build very large floating structures - in fact, it's possible to literally build floating islands in which colonists (and life) could prosper, since normal Earth air also happens to be breathable. More can be made, using plants, as there is already enough nitrogen there, to mix with plant-made oxygen.
There is a scientific hypothesis, called the Gaea Theory. According to this hypothesis, all life on Earth is actually part of a single "living" being, here referred to as "Gaea". Some have argued that Gaea could not be considered alive, because it hasn't reproduced. But maybe that's about to change with the Federation of Pan**gaea**, since we plan to turn Venus into an actual daughter world of Earth.
The development of Venus is being carried out in several phases, as described here: mypangaea.boards.net/thread/200/venus-colonization-thread
I therefore propose that we amend the Universal Charter to secure Venus as the "new world" of the Federation of Pangaea, making it clear to the rest of Earth that we are serious regarding this intention. Please vote here: mypangaea.boards.net/thread/215/inclusion-venus-development-charter
