So I know some members here were deeply involved in Asgardia, I was wondering if any of them have assessed the legitimacy of the Asgardia project.

Short answer, yes, most definitely.
I joined Asgardia back in 2016 when it began. At that time Asgardia was literally promising a heaven, and reached out to all us dreamers than want to build a better world. So I joined.
I began volunteering to build a Constitution. I was told to lead four consequent teams to gather the people's suggestions, and build a Constitution for the people, by the people.
In May however Asgardia's staff came up with their own Constitution. It enforced a constitutional monarchy, it was NOT what the people wanted.
The monarchical Constitution was nonetheless adopted by the staff, even though it had only gained 15% of support during the vote.
After it became a "Space Kingdom", the project's staff began requesting people to pay a fee of 100$ if they wanted to be "true citizens".
I left, like thousands of others did.
I came back in November 2020, to check on any development. Asgardia was basically dead. I proposed to lead the "nation". The people were in support of the idea. But the admin didn't like it. They told me I couldn't run in their so-called "democratic" system, because I was less than 55 years old, and I'd have to be approved by the founder, and I need to pay 100$.
That's when I knew Asgardia was NOT some kind of democracy. It was some sort of scam operation.
Others have pointed out that Asgardia might also be a phishing operation, as upon becoming a "citizen" you are requested to provide many personal information.
